Oil And Water Don't Mix

So the story isn't new, but I was really impressed with the creativity and resources the designer/creative team used to make these posters.

Limited Edition screen prints designed by Anthony Burrill, using oil from the actual spill, oil that was gathered on the beaches of Grand Isle, Louisiana.  Watch the video below for some more goodies about the project

You can still buy a poster at gulfofmexico2010.com.  Of course, all proceeds go to helping this disaster stricken area, still attempting to recover.

Garden Party, not much a party in CHI-Town

Just read this article...sad fate of much of our forward thinking.  Check out the article below about Chicago schools that are leading the way in Garden projects, but are not allowed to serve these healthy veggies actually in the school they are grown.

More funny pics to waste time on, YAY!

------>DragonCon 2010<-------

Ok so you could spend days in these flickr albums, especially if you are a fan of sites such as Awkward Family Photos or People Of Walmart

Basically if you enjoy looking a little deeper into the beautiful people who make up this great nation, AND like comic books, you should check this out...Or if you just want to laugh at silly pics, you should check this out.

According to their site, "Dragon*Con is the largest multi-media, popular culture convention focusing on science fiction and fantasy, gaming, comics, literature, art, music, and film in the universe!"  In other words, NERD central...I used to attend the SD Comic Con back in the 90s...it was awesome.

Ok so if you have a few minutes...or hours to waste, enjoy these albums...below are just a few of my favorites I found:).  As you will see they are mostly pics of tv/movie actor/actresses with fans, and all seem to be enjoying themselves:)

Ian McKellen likes Gays and Movies

Just a lil quick pic fun...so came upon this lil photoshop swap, simple but funny.

As you can see there is a small difference in the pictures:).  Last month the British government partially funded a trip by the Pope/Vatican to Britain.  People were upset and there were a few rallies to let the Pope and goverenment know what some of the public thought.  But it only takes one person to rewrite history, as you can see in the pictures above.

Funny....serious issue...but funny pic

Cool print technique, print on GLASS!

Now you can upload your digi pics and have them printed and sent back to you on a sweet piece of glASS!

No but seriously, check out Fracture, a semi new company producing pictures printed on glass.  There are a number of size and price options, but nothing is too uber expensive...Nice change of pace for artwork or coasters, or a large table...I don't know, but its cool and you might want one, one day.

Sweet lil Clothing Line, Old Book Covers as TSHIRTS!

Check out http://www.outofprintclothing.com/ .  They are semi-new clothing brand using out of print book covers as tshirt designs.  Great idea (wish I had thought of it:) ).  Pricey, $28 per tee, but not ridiculous for a limited, printed, cool vintage looking/feeling tee. They have Mens, Womens and Kidies!

Below are just a few I immediately was drawn to.  But def check out the site, and support small tshirt companies...and books...and reading

Check out Jeremy Messersmith!

Jeremy Messersmith, the musician behind the Tatooine video that has become a bit of a viral sensation over the last few weeks. I spent a few minutes paroooosing his website, and was pleasantly suprised by the rest of his work.  He has at 3 albums on his site, and for the digital download, its pay what you want.  That is pretty AWESOME.  And not only that but you can stream the full albums for free.

Based out of Minnesota, Messersmith has a good sound to his voice, and nice storied compositions...a bit of Elliot Smith and Sufjan Stevens style...check it out yo

Music Site with Album Previews

So a friend led me to another blog that posts album previews and reviews.  Now usually I get my album preview fix from KCRW, but this other blog is not bad at all.  Def worth a look thru, and I will say being able to actually preview a full album rather than 30 sec of a song (stupid iTunes/Amazon) def makes me want to buy a good album when I hear it.

http://prettymuchamazing.com/

Some quick goodies from the site I pulled

James Blake - Limit To Your Love, Feist Cover from James Blake on Vimeo.

or a nice review of Mark Ronson's new album Record Collection

SO YEA CHECK OUT THE SITE, and enjoy the tunes

Underwater Sculpture Garden

I had seen a few pictures of these, but after seeing this video, would LOVE to actually snorkel/scuba dive thru these.
Jason deCaires Taylor created lifestyle cement sculptures within the National Marine Park off Cancun and Isla Mujeres. The final and most ambitious of four stages, nearing completion, is called "The Silent Evolution." DeCaires Taylor, a Brit, has crafted 400 statues -- each of them depicting a local villager -- and has already positioned more than 250 of them on the sea floor.

Anyone up for a trip south???

Not your average GOOGLE,

so found this thru another blog, but thought it was mildly amusing.  Intramutt will find you the last page of results for your search, giving you the opposite results of Google.

Kinda a simple but amusing site, more for a few seconds of laughter than any search engine needs...I approve

Insane Shanghai Psychedelic Tunnel

Its a tourist attraction, but after watching the video seems a bit more like an acid trip.

My favorite part is right around the middle of the video when out of the floor pops some of those awesome inflatable waving tube men. Yes the ones that advertise for car dealerships

...as exemplified here (click it...its funny)

Enjoy the randomness:)

MUSIC AND ANIMALS YEA!

If you have ever seen Winged Migration, then this will seem familiar...If you haven't, but maybe have seen March of the Penguins, An Artic Tale, or even Planet Earth you will appreciate this...

As IF?

While a Southern Baptist Minister in Kentucky denounces Yoga for Christians (Church Says No to Yoga), the City of Cambridge, Mass is trying to use Yoga to calm anger about parking tickets.  Is it possible??...probably not, but they get 2 gold stars for their creative outside the box thinking...Read both for a good laugh.

Star Wars short...IN PAPER

Yeps, gotta love the creative remakes...Nice little 2 min short made entirely outta paper.  Gets a lotta good info from the good 3 films (4,5,6).  Nice music...Enjoy
Jeremy Messsersmith, a Minneapolis musician, has given the original trilogy new depth and pathos with his new video, The Entire Star Wars Trilogy in Two Minutes, for his new song about Tatooine. ('Twin suns of Tatooine / taught me everything I know).  Song is pretty FREAKING COOL, did I mention enjoy.

oh and if that isn't enough, this was released awhile but still makes me smile, click on thru

Phone with REAL DIGI CAMERA...it was only a matter of time

Hey folks, well it looks like Panasonic is the first to really push the envelop with cell phone and cameras.  Just announced the Panasonic Lumix Phone 13.2 mega pixel “slider” camera phone will come equipped with a 3.3-inch VGA LCD touch screen, flash, a 27mm lens and will be be twice as thick as the iPhone measuring in at 17mm.  13 MP!!! ...most Phone camera's have 1-3MP, a few with 5MP, but NO ONE has been toying with 10+ on the consumer market, so this is a nice step for technology.  Now who knows how many other cool features this phone, how smart it is, but really do I care if I can't play bejeweled, or tweeter my life away, no cause rather I can be out enjoying it, taking pictures I will never print!

But don't fret you get your choice of 4 colors; Blue, Black, Pink and Gold.  But do fret cause its only being released in Japan now, but it will come....oh yes they will come

David A Smith, Amazing Glass Sign Artist

Def from a time long ago, David Smith hand crafts reverse glass signs with a true magic touch.  The video does a great job of highlighting an art form that has long been forgotten by many.  Watching it, it's hard not to become mesmerized by the techniques and patience used by Smith.   ENJOY

Woods be Goods

I wanted to post 2 awesome wood products that you guys might enjoy, and it only seems fitting that just a little while ago, I got a message from my friend Casey Woods about helping him with some design stuff.

First is Shwood's Aviators.  Classic and Vintage in style, pricetag not too high, these scream COOL.  They come in a number of different stains and a few different frame shapes.

Check them out here at ShwoodShop.com
via Buzz Beast

Second is WeWood, a watch company specializing in wood watches.  Now the innards has all the modern goodies so no worries about having to wind these watches.  Even better right now if you buy a watch, they plant a tree.  Simple and effective, the watches are a nice change in our ever growing plastic world.

Check them out here at We-Wood.us/

More "Oversized" Goodies, Mini Vintage Camera

This may not be for many, but saw this great remake of a classic camera with all the modern fixins'.

A new pocket-size classic camera, the MINOX DCC Rolleiflex AF 5.0 is a miniature version of the classic 6x6 camera complete with modern features. A digital camera housed in a retro case (an exact replica of an original case), the camera features: an autofocus lens, a 1.1“ inch monitor in the waist-level viewfinder as well as an image resolution of up to 5 megapixels ensure more photographic fun and maximum performance within the smallest space!

Its small and it looks SUPER COOL...I'm sure there is some joke we could make here about the size and what not...but that would be so unprofessional

PS: Penis!

Who WOULDNT WANT THIS???

A friend forwarded this to me...pretty awesome, and it will only cost you $700.  What a deal!

Click on the link below, and def read through the whole Ebay post because the guy is a bit misguided in his idea of what is cool, but I guess thats what makes it funny....ahh how we love geek humor.

Anyways enjoy, and remember my bday is coming up in december if anyone wants to buy me this...just saying:)

Miss ya Jeff Buckley

Celebrating 50 years of Dr. Martens, nice cover of "Lilac Wine" by Cinematic Orchestra.  The song originally written by Jeff Buckley in 1994.  Buckley was a huge influence over my musical journey thru the end of high school and college.  I have some smart music friends to thank for that (Stitty!)

Anyways check out this nice animation and cover, and if you go to the actual YouTube page, you can find a link to download the mp3 for FREEE

Hilarious Whore

Zack Galfanakis may be a movie whore right now, but some of his best work isn't even in the movies, its in  his shorts Between Two Ferns on Funny or Die .com

So why not do a spoof of the The Social Network to continue this hilarity...seriously WATCH THE OTHER EPISODES OF BETWEEN 2 FERNS...do it

they are funny...

Beer in a Bag, Dick in a B-x....I mean....

Hereeee, HEREEE, its time for a small revolution to take place.  A few years ago the alcoholic beverage industry brought us mixed drink in a pouch.  I know my friends loved the purple hooters.  And it was glorious, and we all cheered as spiked capri-sun drank dripped down our shirts.

As if that wasn't enough, now Beer has followed suit with a Beer Bag sure to get you going.  Its light, easy to move, and could actually be better for the environment ( Far less of a transportation cost and carbon footprint needed to move pouches over glass bottles.)  Its brought to us by Beverage Pouch Group and it comes with a handy twist top for easy refils.

But lets focus on whats important.  Now you can drink ANYWHERE, when they say no plastic or glass bottles, you say no problem concert security, no problem movie attendant, no problem...mom

Maybe not exactly the same as Dick in a B-x, but hell, these little devils surely could lead to some dick in many many b-xes...
