Awesome Anamorphic Work

Anamorphic art, pretty awesome stuff.  A few years ago I started seeing it pop up everywhere.  They even had a tv show following street/chalk artist Julian Beever who uses this style.
There are artists all over the world now taking this technique and flipping it on its head...
Just came upon the piece below which is just AWESOME...yes AWESOME...Mexican Studio Golpeavisa, with its great use of space and props to create the portrait of Chef Rene Redzepi for Clase Premiere Magazine.  Take a second and actually look at the piece below to get a good idea of the detail used to create the portrait.  Really cool and a great way to force us to look at things just a little differently.

Bill Nye, The Science Guy

Bill Nye was on The Nerdist Podcast this week... (go listen here).  I loved the idea of science with a comedy twist.  I can remember as a young-in watching episodes of the show...So it reminded me of an old parody they did about Momentum with a Morrissey song..Enjoy a little nostalgia...

Tame Impala, out of Australia recently released their new album, Lonerism.  I actually found them after I saw their 1st album, Innerspeak album artwork online.  (beautiful right? right)

Good psychedelic indie rock.  New album looks promising, just heard a new single off the album (Elephant)...its good, and so is the simple teaser video for it.

2 East Coast Light Exhibits I Wish I Could SEE

Saw these two exhibits happening on the East coast, both look epic.  Check out a peak and the links to see...but basically if you are in NYC or near Philadelphia, you should check these OUT!!!!

The 1st is an installation by Yayoi Kusama at the Whitney Museum in New York City.  They transformed a room with mirrors and lights to create a surreal infinite space of light.  Pictures look unreal.  You may know Kusama for her polka-dot work, she's quite famous.  Look her up

The 2nd is an installation by Bruce Munro at the Longwood Gardens near Philadelphia.  Its a large scale outdoor/indoor light exhibit.  Knowing Munro's art and seeing pictures of this show just make me wish I was in the area to experience it.  Looks really impressive, and a great way to experience art.

Inspirational Artist, Vincent Giard

Not too often these days that I come upon a blog/website that I could happily spend hours on. Well today I found one...Well actually one of the blogs I read (Drawn.ca) found it and described it perfectly ("Vincent Giard is amazing"), and now I pass it along to you.  French Canadian artist Vincent Giard does work that seems surreal, emotional, and quirky, all in a less than perfect style. I don't speak french, and it doesn't matter, as its the images he includes that tell such a rich story.  Seriously spend 15 minutes and scroll thru some of the pages...they are awesome

Science!

Great photos and video of some recent science/space based stuff.  1st we had a SuperMoon last friday and there are some amazing shots out there, but one of my favorites might be by Dutch Astronaut André Kuipers from SPACE.  It looks like a jelly fish in water, but rather its the Moon visually hitting Earths upper atmosphere and thus looking squished.  Check it out below and the link to see a TON more cool shots of the supermoon.

and then I found this cool video of American Astronaut Don Pettit playing with water on some computer speakers...in SPACE....Cool video about the lack of gravity and how water reacts to the sound vibrations...Checks it

Yep I like science too:)

Maurice Sendak and Inspirational Passings

With MCA/Adam Yauch passing last week, and now Maurice Sendak today, I am truly saddened to see the truth of life and death brought so much to the forefront.  I was a huge fan of both.  Beastie Boys was the soundtrack to a part of my childhood and Where the Wild Things will always be a book I look to for  joy and inspiration.  I am sad to see such great American artists pass.

Here is a quick self portrait I did of myself thinking this morning about the passing of Sendak

Both will be sorely missed for their passion and honesty

Jo Peel Wall Art Animation

Watch the animation below; Street Art on a Wall in Shoreditch, London.  Jo Peel creates a great little story, spending some three weeks to complete the work.  As mentioned in the attached article/link where I found it, Blu did something similar, but this work by Peel definitely has its own life and feel.  Enjoy...I did

Walk the Moon...ROCKS

Walk the Moon, EchoPlex, Mon 3/19

Ok so I saw this great band, Walk the Moon...again, and even after seeing them probably 4 or 5 times in the last year, they still seem to put on a show where the energy levels shoot thru the roof.  So much jumping around and singing, well worth it for ANYONE who finds themselves in the same city as these Ohio natives.  The dudes are beyond humble and nice, and their music just makes me want to dance.

Check out a video from their MTVu Woodies performance below and DEF check out their music...Pop rock GREATNESS

Check out their site for more music/tour dates and good stuff

Wayne White, Beauty is Embarrassing

Yes, yes and triple YES!  I grew up on his artwork, am still astounded by his talent, and I can't wait to see this.  The infamous Wayne White.  He designed and created all the sets/artwork for Pee Wee's Playhouse, and he helped create a number of famous music videos, including Peter Gabriels "Big Time," and The Smashing Pumpkins "Tonight, Tonight" based on the works of George Milies.  In addition he makes amazing paintings, he plays music, he is truly an artist unwilling to be cornered.  The documentary premieres at SXSW this year, and I can only hope it will show nation wide after that.
